Are you dealing with suspicious dental symptoms? Find out how a root canal might help.root canals

A lot of people try to ignore a toothache when it surfaces hoping that it will just go away on its own. Sadly, dental pain rarely will go away without proper medical care. If you are dealing with pain or sensitivity in a tooth, our Long Beach, CA, dentist, Dr. Joseph DuRoss, is here to tell you why you should visit us right away and how root canal therapy could just end up saving your smile.

What would you rather deal with: a missing tooth that you have to replace or a simple procedure that could save that tooth? Sure, when we put it that way it may seem like a no-brainer but you wouldn’t believe how many people are so freaked out by a root canal that they don’t get the care they should. A root canal doesn’t cause pain; it gets rid of it. Therefore, you may just need a root canal if you are experiencing:

  • Dental pain
  • Tooth sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
  • Gums surrounding the tooth that are tender or swollen
  • An abscess (a bump that develops on the gums near the tooth)

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms it’s time you visited our Long Beach general dentist right away.

What is the purpose of a root canal?

This endodontic procedure is important because it removes an internal structure called the dental pulp. While the pulp is a necessary structure for the tooth during its development, once the tooth has reached maturity the pulp is no longer necessary for the health of the tooth.

Unfortunately, problems like decay, infection or trauma can be severe enough to penetrate the hard outer layers of the tooth and affect the pulp, causing the pulp to become infected or irritated. Once this has occurred, the only option is to remove the pulp in order to preserve the rest of the tooth.

If you are dealing with a toothache in Long Beach, CA then it’s time you picked up the phone and called our very own Dr. DuRoss. We will get you into our practice as soon as possible.
